Since the East Africa Cup, it seems like so much has happened in the world of sport for development.
In fact I’ve only just managed to keep up to date with a fraction of the activity on the East Africa Cup Twitter: http://twitter.com/eastafricacup
Interesting developments include a film in the pipeline using a young footballer’s story get audiences interested in the science of HIV and AIDS and a world cup for street children to be held in Durban in March.
I’ve also been lucky enough to visit FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich, and can confirm from discussions with their team that they are taking the development opportunity afforded by the first African Worlds Cup very seriously.
And round the corner, here in London, I’ve visited the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association whose planned conference next year goes beyond covering sport and looks at how development and sport are being used together. http://www.cba.org.uk/conferences_and_events/2010_Johannesburg.php
As far as next year’s tournament: it’s being discussed as we speak it seems but it would be great if someone else connected with the tournament could blog on their plans – similarly it would be excellent to hear from people involved in last year’s tournament and how it has affected them.
