Ah winter. A time of reflection, contemplation, sliding tackles on muddy fields (if you are based in the UK that is).
For the East Africa Cup it’s a time of planning, looking forward, examining how the lessons from 2009’s successful tournament can make 2010’s tournament even more spectacular.
It’s also a time for study: the BBC World Service Trust has been offering media skills training for leaders using sport positively in their community as part of the tournament. Trainees from Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya were involved in face to face workshops and practical activities such as hosting press conferences for the event.
Additionally journalists attending the tournament received journalism skills training from the BBC team: as well as group training activities, 1:1 sessions and production skills masterclasses.
Both groups received online training both before and after the face to face sessions, using iLearn courses: these have been developed by BBC journalists and featured mentored assignments.
If you know someone who may be interested in this kind of online training please get in touch. This person might be someone using sport in a development/community context who would benefit from media skills in order to promote their events and activity or a sports journalist who is interested learning more about sport for development.
At this stage we are finding out who is interested in this kind of training and cannot guarantee we will have the resources to carry out this training.
